South Asian clients can bring unique perspectives to the therapeutic space. If therapists don’t understand their identity, cultural nuances and the challenges they face, they may fail to provide them with a culturally inclusive experience.
This theoretical and experiential workshop will offer both lived experience and clinical input by exploring various aspects of South Asian culture in the UK, and suggest how to therapeutically meet their specific needs.
Areas covered:
• South Asian mental health in the UK context
• Common clinical presentations and therapeutic themes
• Identity development, migration, and intergenerational dynamics
• Clinical vignette work
• Clinical guidelines for culturally-sensitive practice
This workshop would be suitable for qualified psychotherapists and Supervisors as well as trainees at an advanced stage of their training (e.g. Level 5+).
